Industrial Hygiene

Course Length:
2 Days
Accreditation:
1.6 CEUs / 16 PDHs
Cost:
$1,750 USD
Course Description:

This course introduces the fundamental principles of Industrial Hygiene (IH) as applied to the process industries and explains how IH and Process Safety Management (PSM) intersect. Participants learn how to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace conditions that may cause illness or injury. Core IH concepts such as containment, sampling strategies, and effective use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are also covered.

Learners gain an understanding of the broad range of workplace hazards and how factors such as work practices, engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE contribute to managing exposure. The course emphasizes the hierarchy of controls in limiting the potential for illness or injury, the role of industrial hygiene in supporting OSHA compliance, and how to address hazards even when no specific OSHA standard exists through the General Duty Clause, consensus standards, and best practices.

Participants will also explore how IH supports day-to-day operations, understanding applicable regulations, and identifying practical strategies to reduce risk. The course encourages active engagement in identifying workplace hazards, reporting concerns, and promoting safe practices.

Course Benefits:
  • Understand what industrial hygiene is and why it matters
  • Recognize workplace hazards and associated risks
  • Identify ways IH protects workers across process operations
  • Support and promote industrial hygiene practices on the job
