Amy E. Theis, P.E., is a Principal Engineer and the Reactive Chemicals Service Leader at AcuTech. She is a highly competent technical professional with 24 years of experience in process safety and risk management for the food, pharmaceutical, consumer good, polymer and chemical industries.

She was formerly a Technical Project Manager and Business Development Director for DEKRA Process Safety providing technical support for US Department of Transportation (DOT), reactive hazard, flammability and combustible dust testing lab projects as well as large-scale fire testing services.

Ms. Theis is a trained and experience risk assessment facilitator leading detailed what-if studies, Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), and HAZard and Operability (HAZOP) studies at a variety of U.S. facilities, operations and engineering phase projects. Ms. Theis is experienced in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes including NFPA 1, 30, 68, 69, 70, 400, 484, 495, 652, 654 and 664.

Her specialty areas of expertise include electrical hazardous area classification, combustible dust, flammable liquids, hazardous materials and explosive materials. She applies these standards to determine appropriate fire code classification, building occupancy and to identify process hazards as well as potential for fires and explosions. Furthermore, she has provided technical support for several incident investigations involving fires or deflagrations related to combustible dust and reactive chemical hazards. This support involved design of experiments, data analysis, applying results and evaluating equipment to determine sequence of events.
