OSHA Process Safety Management Overview
Unexpected releases of toxic, reactive, or flammable liquids and gases have caused catastrophic incidents across various industries handling highly hazardous chemicals. These accidents not only threaten worker safety but also lead to significant financial and environmental consequences.
To mitigate these risks, OSHA implemented the Process Safety Management (PSM) standard (29 CFR 1910.119), which provides a comprehensive regulatory framework. It integrates technologies, procedures, and management practices to improve process safety. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforces risk management requirements under 40 CFR Part 68 (RMP) to enhance safety at facilities. These regulations help protect both industrial sites and surrounding communities.
This one-day OSHA PSM overview course introduces the 14 elements of OSHA’s PSM standard and the key requirements of EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP). Additionally, participants will gain a foundational understanding of process safety regulations, their background and intent, how to apply them in their workplace, and the requirements for each of the elements of PSM. The training is ideal for both new employees seeking an introduction to PSM and experienced personnel in need of a refresher.
