Implementing EPA’s Risk Management Program (RMP)
The EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) aims to prevent and mitigate chemical accidents that could harm workers, the surrounding community, and the environment. Specifically, under the Clean Air Act (Section 112(r)), facilities that handle hazardous chemicals are required to develop and implement comprehensive risk management plans. These plans protect people and property from the risks associated with chemical releases. This two-day course provides an in-depth understanding of the key elements of the EPA Risk Management Program (RMP). It is designed to help participants develop and implement compliant risk management strategies. Topics include essential RMP components such as Registration, Offsite Consequence Analysis (worst-case and alternative release scenarios), and the 5-year Accident History. In addition, the course also covers RMP Prevention Program elements, including Process Hazard Analysis, Mechanical Integrity, Operating Procedures, Management of Change, and Auditing.
The course provides a thorough review of the recent final RMP Rule revisions, along with practical implementation examples and detailed interpretations. Furthermore, participants will gain the knowledge needed to manage and implement EPA RMP programs at their own facilities. This helps ensure EPA compliance and enhances process safety.
