This step reinforces the firm’s long-term commitment to supporting high-hazard industries across the region. The Qatar presence strengthens AcuTech’s ability to deliver locally embedded, technically rigorous consulting services. Our work maintains consistency with global best practices in process safety, risk management, physical security, and OT cyber security. It spans greenfield developments, brownfield facilities, and enterprise-level programs for major industrial operators.
Process Safety in Qatar
Oil-rich nations in the Middle East have prioritized enhancing process safety and risk management, especially within their oil and gas sectors. They’ve implemented stringent regulations, invested in advanced technologies, and fostered safety cultures in industrial facilities. Despite progress, challenges persist. The need for better safety regulation enforcement, addressing cultural factors affecting safety practices, and ensuring adequate training for industrial personnel remains. In addition, geopolitical tensions and security concerns also influence industrial security measures, prompting robust security protocols.
While advancements have been made, ongoing efforts are essential to overcome challenges and ensure safety and security in the region’s industrial operations. Moreover, these operations are expanding beyond traditional oil and gas sectors into sustainable ventures. The recent trend towards sustainability has resulted in the advent of new applications previously unseen in the region.
AcuTech’s Work in the Region
AcuTech has an established track record across Qatar and the wider Gulf region in recent years. Our team has delivered high-impact consulting services for our clientele and engineering companies across energy, and petrochemicals industries in process safety, risk management, physical security, and OT cybersecurity.
AcuTech’s regional engagements have included baseline and revalidation Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA). Additionally, projects have included the development and implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems, and security risk assessments for industrial areas and multiple energy organizations. Through this work, AcuTech supports clients in strengthening risk visibility, improving decision-making, and aligning operations with international standards and regulatory expectations.
Security Risk Assessment for a HDPE Greenfield Project in Qatar
AcuTech conducted a comprehensive Security Risk Assessment (SRA) for a large greenfield petrochemical development in Ras Laffan Industrial City. It comprised of an ethane cracking unit, multiple polyethylene production units, and extensive offsite and utilities infrastructure. The assessment was facilitated in accordance with API 780. It was documented using an approved security vulnerability analysis platform, identifying credible threats, critical assets, vulnerabilities, and risk-ranked mitigation measures. The results established a robust security design basis to support subsequent FEED and EPC phases while ensuring alignment with Qatari regulatory and international security requirements.
Enterprise Process Safety Management (PSM) Implementation for a Major Aluminum Smelter in Qatar
AcuTech supports a large aluminum smelting operation in Qatar through a multi-year, enterprise-wide Process Safety Management (PSM) implementation program. AcuTech led a comprehensive gap assessment, risk-based PHA activities, executive and workforce training, procedure development, and promoting process safety capabilities & culture across organization.
HAZOP & LOPA for a Petrochemical Plant in Qatar
The PHA team has performed extensive PHAs for a petrochemical plant in Qatar. This included conducting HAZOP and LOPA studies for an Ultra High Pressure continuous polymerization plant (LDPE manufacturing at 2600 Bar pressure) and various utilities systems. The systems covered steam generation, turbo generators, cooling and chilling systems, nitrogen and oxygen plants, and compressed air systems.
Large-Scale PHAs for a Multinational Agrochemical Company
AcuTech has undertaken extensive PHAs, including HAZOP, LOPA, DHA, and facility siting studies, for both existing and new projects of a multinational agrochemical company across its manufacturing sites in India and Denmark. Since 2018, over 50 such PHAs have been performed, alongside Hazardous Area Classification and MEIRA (Mechanical Equipment Ignition Risk Assessment).
Process Safety Management System Benchmarking for a National Petrochemical Company in Oman
AcuTech has managed an extensive PSM benchmarking study for a national petrochemical company in Oman across its manufacturing sites. The assessment enabled leadership to identify systemic gaps and harmonize PSM practices enterprise-wide. It allowed for the definition of a structured path toward improved process safety resilience and regulatory alignment with CCPS and international standards.
