AcuTech Consulting Group Announces Workshop for Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS)

Now that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has begun sending out final tiering letters to begin the next phase of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) regulation and has finalized the Risk-Based Performance Standards (RBPS) guidance and accompanying Site Security Plan (SSP) tool, it is time to get ready for the next and most critical stage of compliance.

Once a facility receives a letter from DHS informing it of its final tier in the four-tier system, that facility has only 120 days to:

• make strategic decisions on how to establish a CFATS compliance program
• document existing security measures and determine gaps
• determine how to meet the Risk-Based Performance Standards for each Chemical of Interest and associated assets identified by DHS at the appropriate tier, and
• complete the CSAT Site Security Plan (SSP) for submission.

DHS has estimated that an average size facility could spend 200 man-hours answering the approximately 1,500 questions that document how the facility plans to comply. AcuTech believes that it may take much longer depending on the gap represented by a facility’s current security posture and the amount of work required in planning to meet the performance standards.

AcuTech has developed a step-by-step training on how to prepare and submit a CSAT SSP and to develop a practical, cost-effective, real world compliance program for CFATS. The program is designed to help chemical facilities understand the intent of CFATS from a technical perspective to allow them to organize, strategize, plan and confidently submit your SSP. This program provides facilities with a way to understand strategies to simplify their compliance and conserve resources.
